EDIT 20/02/09: Take a look at this blog post over at MajorNelson.com – An Xbox LIVE Gamertag is unrecoverable from the system only when the associated Windows Live ID has become dormant and the Gamertag has been deleted from all Xbox 360 consoles. Hopefully that should clear things up a bit, as this instance would be far less likely than what was first reported.
After reading the Xbox Live accounts hit by email expiry blunder via GamesIndustry.biz I thought it would be worth double checking what email account I had linked to my Gamertag. As I have a couple of Gamertags (one US the other Japanese) I juggle a couple of Hotmail and Gmail accounts, and wasn’t sure what one I was using.
A quick way to do this is:
- From any area of the Xbox Dashboard, select your gamer profile.
- Select Account Management.
- Select Windows Live ID.
This will display the email address in use. If it is an email address you don’t use regularly, which could therefore become inactive, the procedure to change the Windows Live ID associated with your Gamertag can be found here: http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/support/xbox360/live/account/accountswitch.htm Worth checking out.

ok, so, my windows live ID was hacked, and the girl who hacked it deleted the account. so, because the account was deleted, when i go into the xbox to the “change windows live ID” page, the password doesn’t work, even though i know i’m typing the right one. is there a way to get past this problem? i have a new email now that i’d like to add to my gamertag (dancingdead7x), but i can’t. so, yea, help please. email me here: j.snack@hotmail.com
